This homemade limoncello recipe is a bright and refreshing chilled drink that is full of sweet lemon flavor. A perfect drink for a hot summer night that is usually enjoyed after a meal or with a dessert.
How to make this homemade limoncello recipe
This recipe is made with a few simple ingredients and a little bit of patience, with the majority of the work done ahead of time. It starts by infusing a bottle of Everclear with fresh lemon peels, which is set aside in an airtight pitcher and placed in a cool, dry place for a few weeks.
Homemade Limoncello Recipe Steps:
- Infuse the alcohol for at least 3 weeks.
- Make a simple syrup.
- Strain the alcohol from the lemon peels.
- Add the simple syrup to the infused alcohol, stir, and chill.
- Keep chilled until ready to serve.
Tips for making Limoncello
- When removing the lemon peels, make sure to remove any white pith to prevent a bitter taste.
- For the best flavor, use a good quality, high proof, grain alcohol.
- Let the lemon peels soak in the alcohol for at least 3 weeks, giving it a quick stir every few days.
How to serve limoncello
Limoncello is best served in a small chilled glass. Since this drink is a bit strong, it is typically served in a small glass and sipped. The best time to serve it is after dinner, or with a dessert.
Again, if you follow this recipe, it makes a very strong drink. You only need a small amount, and it is best enjoyed if sipped slowly.

How to store limoncello
Homemade limoncello is best stored in the refrigerator or freezer for up to 6 months. After 6 months, the lemon flavor may begin to fade. Always store it in an airtight container and discard it if there is a color change or a sour smell.
