Three different hummus recipes to make a hummus appetizer board.

Units Scale

Basic Hummus:

  • 2 cups chickpeas (cooked or canned)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp (or more) tahini (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For all the recipes add:

Lemon Pepper Hummus:

  • 1 more additional tbsp freshly squeezed lemon
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • Top with olive oil, more lemon, and black pepper.

 Herb Hummus:

  • 1/2 tsp rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp more of freshly squeezed lemon.
  • Top with olive oil and additional rosemary and thyme.

Spicy Hummus:

  • 2 tsp chili paste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Top with olive oil and additional red pepper flakes.

For each hummus recipe, begin with the basic hummus ingredients and add all the additional for each recipe to a blender and blend until smooth.

Once you have all the hummus prepared place each in their own serving dish and add to a platter. Surround with pita, bread, and crackers. Add cheeses, fruits, nuts, seeds, olives, and any of your favorite appetizer foods.

Add more olive oil or water if the hummus is too thick. Tweak to your liking adding more salt or other ingredients to make it the way you like.

  • Each hummus recipe on the board started with basic hummus and I added the extra seasonings to each.
  • Tahini is an optional ingredient that I ran out of while making these hummus recipes and they came out good.
  • Pinching off the chickpea skin will result in smoother hummus.
